Black Friday (29 November) and Cyber Monday (4 December) are coming soon – and with them, a really busy time for all marketers. So – we’ve decided to make your life easier in the run-up to 29/11 and give you some ready-to-use Black Friday email templates complete with subject lines and dates you should send them! Yes, that’s right – we prepared some Black Friday Email Templates you can use directly in your business! 😁😈
Best Black Friday Email Marketing Practices
- Send your first Black Friday email early – at least a week before the day – on 21 November;
- Prepare a sequence of at least 8-10 emails – see the timeline below;
- Use unconventional subject lines with emojis 😈 – avoid words like ❌’sale’, ‘discount’, ‘%’ and ‘deal’ for better deliverability; see examples below;
- 😈👉Use emojis in your email body 😉 – see examples of the email texts below ✔;
- Use GIFs instead of images;
- Don’t limit yourself to discounts – mix things up with 2-for-1 deals, product bundles with partnering companies, and boost sales revenue (see our Black Friday email templates below for inspiration!)
- Follow-up on the day after the sale
Black Friday Email Campaign Timeline
When creating your Black Friday email campaign, the timeline is as important as the content. Considering most companies will be sending at least one Black Friday email to their subscribers, it will be a very busy time for your customers. With lots of senders jostling for your subscribers’ attention, you have to stand out: both with what you send in your first Black Friday email, and when you send it.
- Be early – send your first Black Friday email at least a week before the day (on or before 21 November)
- How many emails should you send? It may surprise you, but we recommend you send a Black Friday email sequence with at least 9 emails in it;
When should you send your emails? Here is an example Black Friday email campaign timeline:
- 21 November – 11 a.m. – Teaser Black Friday Email – announce your Black Friday campaign
- 26 November – 11 a.m. – Countdown Black Friday Email – send a reminder of the upcoming discount at least 3 days before the day;
- 29 November, 7 a.m. – Black Friday Offer Email – Send your subscribers your core Black Friday offer on the day – before they go to work;
- 29 November, 12 p.m. – Black Friday Lunch Email – Remind your subscribers how much they are going to save + benefits of the product bundle during lunchtime on Black Friday – include a countdown clock in the email template;
- 29 November, 9 p.m. – “Last Chance” Black Friday Email – Remind your subscribers the Black Friday sales ends in 3 hours – include a countdown clock in the email template;
- 30 November, 9 a.m. – ‘Sorry you’ve missed it!’ Black Friday Email – Say you’re sorry your recipients missed this deal, and remind them there will be another one coming soon – for Cyber Monday
- 3 December, 9 p.m. – Teaser Cyber Monday Email – Sunday night is the best time to send newsletters; so make sure you remind your subscribers about the upcoming sale – and push them through using urgency in a clever way (see below! 😉 )
- 4 December, 7 a.m. – Cyber Monday Offer Email – Use urgency in the email – e.g. Offer a declining discount – starting from 50% off, getting smaller by 10% every two hours.
- 5 December, 11 a.m. ‘Sorry you’ve missed it!’ Cyber Monday Email – Well, the purpose of this email is not to poke your subscribers in the eye that they missed the sale – but to remind them of the upcoming Christmas promotion 😉
Black Friday Email Subject Lines Examples
For your Black Friday Email campaign, avoid subject lines that cry ‘discount!’ – for once, because a lot of email clients (e.g. Gmail) filter emails with keywords indicating sales intent (e.g.promotion, discount, deal, %, bargain, sale, cheap) either into the promotions tab or directly as spam.
Secondly – because your subscribers may get tired of reading 10,000 email subject lines that all sound the same (‘Massive Black Friday Sale!’) – and simply won’t click on yours because it won’t grab their attention.
Here are some examples of attention-grabbing Black Friday email subject lines:
- {Personalisation – first name e.g. Emilia}, brace yourself: BF is coming. And it’s gonna be too good to be true! 🤯(21 November – 11 a.m. – Teaser Black Friday Email)
- 🕐 It’s the final countdown, Emilia! (26 November – 11 a.m. – Countdown Black Friday Email)
- ✨Rise & Shop, Emilia! Black Friday is here! (29 November, 7 a.m. – Black Friday Offer Email)
- ✔ Have you ticked 👉*this* off your to-do list for today yet? (29 November, 12 p.m. – Black Friday Lunch Email)
- ❌We *really* don’t want you to miss this opportunity… / Last chance, Emilia! (29 November, 9 p.m. – “Last Chance” Black Friday Email)
- Sorry, you missed it! 😫😭 (30 November, 9 a.m. – ‘Sorry you’ve missed it!’ Black Friday Email)
- “Are you ready, hey, are you ready for this? Are you hanging on the edge of your seat?” 🎵 (3 December, 9 p.m. – Teaser Cyber Monday Email)
- It’s Monday again – but we have something to sweeten 🧁 it… (4 December, 7 a.m. – Cyber Monday Offer Email)
- This train is gone, but it’s not the last one this year 🚝 (5 December, 11 a.m. ‘Sorry you’ve missed it!’ Cyber Monday Email)
- Leave it empty (for any email) 💁♀️ – it may sound daunting, but according to the latest research from Technology of Marketing Conference, no subject line = higher open rates; if you’re not that daring: leave a single emoji/ one word in the subject line: e.g. 👉 or ‘This 👉”
