{"id":863,"date":"2018-03-13T10:29:06","date_gmt":"2018-03-13T10:29:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.getanewsletter.com\/en\/?p=863"},"modified":"2023-09-29T07:35:07","modified_gmt":"2023-09-29T07:35:07","slug":"coaching-business-blog-need-email-marketing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/getanewsletter.com\/en\/blog\/coaching-business-blog-need-email-marketing\/","title":{"rendered":"Why your coaching business (and blog!) need email marketing"},"content":{"rendered":"<h6 style=\"text-align: center;\"><b>So you\u2019ve written a great blog post\u2026and now what?<\/b><\/h6>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As a coach, you need to give away a *lot* to your potential clients for free before you sell anything.<\/span> You know how important it is to share the value of our services through free content, either through your blog, Facebook page, or through newsletter, to build trust and show that what you can offer to your coaching clients is really going to help them, whether in business or in life. But the common scenario for a lot of coaches at the beginning of their career is that their content \u2013 no matter how valuable it is \u2013 is <b><i>not really converting the readers into paying clients.\u00a0<\/i><\/b>The chance is, you are not making most of your blog due to the missing email marketing funnels.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Whether you are at the beginning of your coaching career, or you already have a massive following and a long list of clients, <\/span><b>you could make your blog posts work a lot harder for you<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. I am going to show you <\/span><b>how you can use<\/b> <b>email marketing<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to set up email marketing funnels at the end of each blog post that is going to help you convert your content readers into paying customers a lot more effectively than content alone.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"poptin-embedded\" data-id=\"1ec514c90a633\"><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I remember my frustration when \u2013 after getting 48 shares of my Facebook post and heaps of encouraging comments \u2013 I still got no emails with quote requests. The situation persisted for a while until I reached out to a more experienced coach I was following (a coach getting a coach, fancy that!) to ask for advice on <\/span><b><i>what I was doing wrong<\/i><\/b><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 404px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"\/\/gph.is\/YCfPKJ\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media.giphy.com\/media\/EqJBJMCh96O1W\/giphy.gif\" alt=\"Friends GIF\" width=\"404\" height=\"404\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: https:\/\/giphy.com\/embed\/EqJBJMCh96O1W<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A few hours and $ 200 later (yes, she *did* charge me for her advice, and I was happy to pay for it \u2013 I will tell you how she got me to pay without second thoughts a bit later!) I got a response: there was nothing wrong with my content! In fact, she complimented me on some of my posts and said they were \u2018really inspiring\u2019! \u00a0The problem was: there simply wasn\u2019t a clear <\/span><b>monetization logic <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">between my content and my paid services.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Monetization logic? <\/span><b>Dan Norris <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in his book \u2018<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Content Machine<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019 defines <\/span><b>monetization logic<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as the <\/span><b>relationship between your content and your paid products\/services<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that makes your readers want to buy from you on the basis of what they\u2019ve read.<\/span><\/p>\n<h6><b>Let\u2019s have a look at an example of a good monetization logic: <\/b><\/h6>\n<p><b>Blog post:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u201910 foolproof ways of improving your subject lines to increase your open rates by 30% &#8211; the ultimate guide for restaurant owners\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Product:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Exclusive template of 20 customizable subject lines + FREE! 5 email templates for your restaurant business for just $ 4.99<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Can you see the <\/span><b>monetization logic <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">between the <\/span><b>blog post<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the <\/span><b>paid service here<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">? It worked because the service was perfectly aligned with the audience that was <\/span><b>*interested*<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in this very narrow, highly specialized service. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The beautiful thing about writing your own blog is that you can write content that will be logically linked to your specific services. By choosing to read the specific post (like the one about subject lines for newsletters in the restaurant business) that states a problem and solution the readers have already indicated they <\/span><b>*may have that problem*<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to you with their attention. If you include a sign-up form at the end of the post promising them a customized solution to that problem, you convert your readers into <\/span><b>*very* warm leads.<\/b><\/p>\n<h6 style=\"text-align: center;\"><b>Don\u2019t sell snow to Eskimo<\/b><\/h6>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/media.giphy.com\/media\/11StaZ9Lj74oCY\/giphy.gif\" alt=\"Shocked April Fools GIF\" width=\"706\" height=\"456\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Source: https:\/\/gph.is\/YCfPKJ<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In order to <\/span><b>convert those warm leads into paying customers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> you need to (obviously, but\u2026not so obvious as it turns out) offer them something that they really want. If the client comes to you <\/span><b>to buy a blue dress but you offer them yellow trousers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, do you think they will buy it? So: if you\u2019re writing a blog post about blue dresses, don\u2019t cool down the warm leads who have signed up to read more about blue dresses by offering them yellow trousers! I often find that coaches offer very broad services while their blog posts focus on very particular problems. Why not break down the offer into smaller (and cheaper) products\/services? (It can be done so easily, especially with digital products!)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Of course, you<\/span><b> can\u2019t <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">be salesy and <\/span><b>simply ask your readers to buy a related product<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at the end of your post. That would be <\/span><b>like proposing to someone on the first date<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So, what can you do?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2018<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You need to <\/span><\/i><b><i>set up some email marketing funnels<\/i><\/b><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at the end of each of your posts <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019 \u2013 said Linda, my coach.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><b><i>Email marketing funnels?! <\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I wasn\u2019t even doing any email marketing at that time! Little did I know that was about to change very soon and that I would soon become pretty obsessed with my little <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">email marketing funnels.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yes. I will walk you through setting up email marketing funnels *that sell*. Please go to my signup page to enroll on the course. I have been using and perfecting the strategies I have learned there ever since and I am going to walk you through some of them in a nutshell below (completely for free, don\u2019t worry.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>An email marketing funnel<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a sequence of emails that leads the reader through some free content from the sign-up form (here: at the end of your blog post) to the checkout. It substantially increases your chances of converting your readers into paying customers. What Linda did to me is a very good example of a marketing funnel. <\/span><b>Email funnels are basically like dating<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. You need to woo your customer with several emails before they say \u2018yes\u2019 to your proposal (to buy your product or service). <\/span><b>Let me show you how. <\/b><\/p>\n<h6 style=\"text-align: center;\"><b><i>Why emails?<\/i><\/b><\/h6>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Before we get to the nitty-gritty about how to set up a good email marketing funnel &#8211; let\u2019s make one thing clear &#8211; you really do need email marketing. Even if you think you don\u2019t. A lot of my clients initially object to using newsletters in their content marketing strategy. \u2018I have 13,000 engaged followers on Facebook, I don\u2019t need a newsletter!\u2019; \u2018Nobody reads emails these days!\u2019 Well, nobody reads *boring* and *unimportant* emails these days, but if you make your emails valuable and important, I can assure you that your readers will be waiting for that \u2018You got mail\u2019 message.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The best thing about <\/span><b>email marketing<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is that it creates a <\/span><b>bridge between all your content marketing channels. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0You can ask your 13,000 engaged followers on Facebook to read your blog posts but you need to attract them with *something* there first. <\/span><b>\u00a0<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And <\/span><b>once you have visitors to your specific blog posts<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, once you have comments under your Facebook posts, <\/span><b>what do you do with them next<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><i>&#8211; Nothing.<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Oh blimey. A lot of really great coaches with fantastic content do not collect data (or act on them) or follow up on their blog post visitors.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you do not follow up on your blog post visitors, you are basically <\/span><b>leaving money on the table<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><b><i>Breadcrumbing<\/i><\/b><b> your way to success<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><i>Breadcrumbing<\/i><\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">may have some bad rep as a term for nasty behavior on dating websites, but I like to use it to describe \u2013 very graphically, you must admit \u2013 a technique of feeding your readers small pieces of valuable content and creating suspense by means of <\/span><b>\u2018cliffhangers\u2019. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cliffhangers are unfinished stories, statements<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">that make the customer wait in anticipation to open the next email. By building this anticipation you build a relationship with your readers, and you build trust &#8211; so by the time they get to the checkout they should be literally opening their wallets for you (if you get it right &#8211; you can read more about how to get it right below).<\/span><\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 260px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media.giphy.com\/media\/cBQl0NCv0eZdS\/giphy.gif\" alt=\"Excited Full House GIF\" width=\"260\" height=\"260\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source:\u00a0https:\/\/gph.is\/28MUy1t<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><b>Email sequences<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are a perfect way to do that in a way that is non-intrusive and that allows you to stream your audience and target the right services\/products to the right leads.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Have a look at your services and your blog posts \u2013 say, you are selling advice on email marketing. By setting up separate sign-up forms at the end of each post, you can <\/span><b>stream your subscribers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>divide your list<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> into sub-lists according to their main interests.
